Making Tortillas

We decided to make home made Gluten-Free corn/flour tortillas. I have tried before, but they stuck so bad to the tortilla press. I read on the outside of the corn tortilla bag to use plastic wrap in between the press and the dough. It worked. Mr. Wheels learned to flip the tortillas on the griddle and Tessa was in charge of the press. I was able to let them take over after a while. I was still nervous about Mr. Wheels and a hot griddle, but he did very well.

The letter C

We are making cup cakes while studying the letter C with my son. Of course my daughter is helping. While putting frosting on them my son says, "Mama I know what I can do. When my knife gets dirty I can just lick it. That is what I will do. " Too cute. He is a rascal. 

Word Sounds

I found these magnetic wooden pictures on amazon. I used them today for Mr. Wheels to sort them by their beginning sound. I did the letters A to D. We did this once before and it was difficult for him. Today it was a bit easier, but I will probably do it again. I will probably stop going in alphabetical order. It will take too long to have him form words. 

Math

Tessa does her math independently on her drafting board this year. I am excited about this method. I  put the textbook onto the Kindle app so she does not have to take up too much space on her desk. Last year she was frustrated that the t-square slipped off the board. This year it is all attached. Being a math teacher I am excited that she is learning all about geometry by drawing the actual shapes. She will have a better understanding of the concepts if she draws them rather than seeing them already made in a book. 

Organizing his numbers

I handed him the green cards with the pictures of the fingers and asked him to match the red cards with the numbers on them. He went a step further and put them in order. I was surprised. He decided to do the order all by himself. Then he counted to show he could use his fingers too. I need to move up to 2 hands now. I think he knows 6 & 7 but I have more hand cards and I need to find 6-10 number cards too.

Cold and Hot

For science Tessa did an experiment where she had ice cold water in one bucket, lukewarm in the middle,and hot in the on the other end. She she put her hands in the hot and cold water. One hand in each for 30 seconds. She couldn't help but squeal because the ice cold water was very cold. She felt like she was getting hypothermia on that hand. Then she moved both hands to the lukewarm water in the middle. She noticed that the hand that was in the cold water felt warm and the hand that had been in the hot water felt cold. This helped her to understand how our brain senses temperature.
